GREEN INITIATIVE
A powerhouse boutique real estate firm with a primary focus to only advise Tenants & Buyers - KANE has always been a good corporate citizen. We know the discussions and actual applications of KANE Sustainable Practice were not an option but mandatory to be current in today’s times. KANE has stood committed to this believe well before other firms followed to play catch up. On the KANE Staff we have a Licensed Real Estate Sales Agent with his total focus of the KANE Green Initiative. Below is a short description of the person leading our firms Green Initiative efforts.
Mr. Jeffrey Kirks received his degree from Temple University. Mr. Kirks, a licensed agent at KANE has written and taught courses on management, ethics, agency, supervision, green building, and financing courses for Virginia continuing education, Maryland pre-licensing and continuing education and the District of Columbia. He is considered one of the most respected advisors in the field of commercial office sustainability issues, costs, and tax credits thereof. Mr. Kirks has been involved with the green building movement before other brokers understood its value to stay current with this subject. He is the point person at KANE for all correspondence with the United States Green Building Counsel (USGBC). Mr. Kirks serves on many of the committees for the USGBC and is a certified instructor for the USGBC Credential Maintenance Program.
Understanding the sustainability requirements and all there is to know regarding the various levels of LEED Certification and Tax Credits is now mandatory knowledge in our industry. Knowing how LEED Certification can be subsidized is part of our Advisory Services to our Clients.
Our offices located at ONE DEMOCRACY PLAZA have been home to KANE for over a dozen years and during that time our property has retained and Energy Star Recipient year after year and is now an LEED Certified Silver Building. Currently KANE is investing over $80,000 in upgrades to their existing premises to their commitment to occupy a LEED certified office by year end.
